MICHELE STANZIONE
Michele Stanzione was born in Benevento, Italy, in 1981, where he lives and works while maintaining an active international artistic practice.
Fascinated from an early age by the expressive and communicative power of art, he began his artistic journey through photography and gradually developed a personal visual language in which black and white became both a distinctive aesthetic choice and a conceptual tool.
His research focuses on the human soul, identity, memory and the deepest dimensions of human experience. Through photography, Stanzione creates images that often acquire a symbolic, spiritual and introspective dimension, transforming the visible world into a space of psychological and emotional investigation.
His artistic practice has developed through exhibitions, international collaborations, cultural exchanges and photographic projects in Italy, Europe and Asia.
Among his significant exhibitions and projects are Solidarte at Castel dell’Ovo in Naples, Autoritratti – Artisti del Terzo Millennio, the international project Stemperando, Velata, Diversity, GEOART at the Museo del Sannio in Benevento, Anime at the Maschio Angioino in Naples, Border Crossing Hypothesis during Rome Art Week, and his participation in the First International Biennale of Durazzo representing Italy.
In 2026 he participates in the 61st International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia, within the Equatorial Guinea Pavilion, at Palazzo Donà dalle Rose, as part of the exhibition The Forest – The Undergrowth, where he presents his photographic research Bosco Sacro.
The project represents an important stage in the evolution of his artistic language, in which photography becomes a tool for investigating the relationship between human beings, nature, memory and the invisible.
Stanzione has also developed an extensive photographic archive dedicated to contemporary art through his Portraits of Art project, portraying numerous internationally recognised artists, curators and cultural figures.
His photographs have appeared in newspapers, magazines, catalogues and publications in Italy and abroad.
Alongside his artistic activity, Stanzione has developed an important role in international cultural exchange. He is an ambassador for cultural exchanges between Italy and China, a member of the scientific committee of the DODO ART MUSEUM in Beijing, directed by artist Liu Ruowang, and was appointed Visiting Professor at the University of Art & Design of Shandong in Jinan, China, in 2018.
He is also President of Millevolti, a cultural association dedicated to international artistic and cultural exchange, and has served as Artistic Director for major contemporary art projects and monumental installations.
Today, Michele Stanzione’s research moves beyond photography as a mere recording medium.
Photography is his language.
The invisible is his field of investigation.
